Steady as a rock

…or so they say

Living on the bleeding proprietary edge

While testing the things I wrote for Usplash in edgy, I often had to hard reboot my mahine because the ☠ Proprietary ati driver kept crashing the machine on modeswitches. Fortunately they released an update recently which is supposed to fix that.

So instead of packaging it weirdly, as I did for breezy/dapper, I decided to bite the bullet and update the ati and nvidia drivers in linux-restricted-modules. A dpkg-buildpackage and reboot later, with a lot of finger crossing, it worked! I haven’t seen a single crash yet with these drivers.

Now, if only they’d support composite… But hey, it’s a proprietary driver, apparently that’s synonymous for ‘hard to work with’. Anyway, back to implementing more usplash goodies, and maybe even fix a bug or two.
